The Light of Love - The Touch of Tilak
By Gavin Dillard

A native Sri Lankan, Tilak travels the world spreading the Light of love and clarity.  I was recently his guest for a “personal” at a Kihei seaside home in which pilgrims lined up for their daily fix.

I was more distracted by the light show than recipient of the cool breeze described in most of Tilak’s materials.  Nevertheless, the touch of the handsome dark man struck chords within me that lasted throughout the day.  Miracles followed – perhaps it was just a wondrous day.  Although less impressed by the master’s tapes and oracular skills, I would gleefully return again and again for more infusions of Light.

Herein is a transcript of our ensuing spiritual banter – I think it’s clear who won…

MV: Are you a guru, a teacher, a healer?  I know the concepts can overlap, but often there is a focus.

Tilak:  The words such as guru and teacher are used by people who believe they are in a spiritual path with a man, or a sacred path that usually comes out of a tradition or lineage.  I did not come from any tradition or lineage, so whatever I do with people comes out of a fresh source of brilliance, freshness and light.  In fact, sometimes people call me “teacher of unlearning,” because when people are with me most of their misinterpretations and misunderstandings, that led into darkness or contractions, get revealed.

MV: Many teachers do not touch people – this is more what “healers” do – but your work is very hands-on.  Can you explain what you do when you work on a person’s body?

Tilak:  My work is not about healing or being a guru or teacher.  Healing is a by-product that happens in the process of awakening because you cannot be awakened and still carry a crazy body  and a weird mind. It is just like swimming – you don’t swim to get wet, but you swim for the mere joy and pleasure of that experience itself.  Similarly, if you are in the process of awakening most of the things associated with healing come as a natural byproduct.

MV: Breath and the use of mystic light appear to be focal points of your “treatment” – can you say something about the use of breath and light in your work?

Tilak:  In my work, in a “session,” the person experiences an exposure to a stream of cool light.  It is not heat light, natural light or mechanical light.  In fact it is not a light coming from a source at all.  It is an opening – just like when you open a door or window as a rush of light and breeze comes into the room, or just as if you remove a veil from your face you see brightness and coolness.   This is the opening people experience as light.  It is actually an organic revelation that was triggered by contact from my breath into the space that ignites as a glow.  It is almost like when you go into an air conditioned room you feel cool – when you are in a hot tub you feel hot.  Whether you are a vegetarian or non-vegetarian you feel hot, without any discrimination.  It is in the same manner when somebody comes for a session, they experience an exposure to a coolness and lightness that penetrates into their being.  It is like dipping a strawberry into chocolate sauce – you will never be the same.  You will open your eyes into a sweetness and lightness and a brilliance that is experienced by your mind and body – then for hours, days and weeks the light will gently move into any spaces that were in darkness or shadows before.  It will reveal a great sense of lightness and aliveness in mind, heart and body.

MV:  Are you clearing “karma” when you work on people?

Tilak:  When I work on People it brings them into a space of clear thinking and removes all beliefs and conditions that have restricted their freedom into a true space of liberation.

MV:  I know of no goal more worthy than the transcendence of intellect.  Is this a consideration of your work?

Tilak:  No – intellect will lead you into realization of truth.  Intellect and knowledge are necessary for super-survival only.  They can lead you into suffering in poverty or into suffering in luxury.  My work is not about suffering in luxury – it is a transcendence of all that we know as our story and knowledge into a spectrum of rainbow compassion and brilliance that explodes as realization.

Tilak will give a series of lectures on Maui in early July and will be available for private sessions.
